Fortify Home was established to provide emergency and intermediate housing as part of the Fortify Life mission. The Fortify Home project included the acquisition of a former hotel building and is operated as an emergency and intermediate housing facility. The project site is in an ideal location along Auburn’s primary commercial corridor but also tucked behind a row of commercial properties. The facility provides easy walkable access to groceries, healthcare, WIC Office, Unemployment Office, Social Security Office, and a myriad of job opportunities.

Fortify Home currently has 13 rooms that provide short-term emergency and long-term case management stays to residents from DeKalb County who are facing a housing crisis and want to work towards self-sufficiency. Some will stay a couple of nights, while we expect others to be at Fortify Home for several months as they work toward their goals.
We are currently renovating the facility to expand the number of rooms available to 22 and increase the community space that will be shared by our neighbors. The renovations will include converting space to a common laundry, kitchen, and dining area; enhancing the accessibility of all rooms; new paint, hard surface flooring in place of carpet, new LED ceiling lights in all of the rooms; and all deferred maintenance work that needs to be completed. Each unit will be thoroughly cleaned, furnished with the basics including bed and bath linens, and made functional for our neighbors.
As we introduce programming, complete renovations, and maintain this property it will take the support of community organizations, volunteers, and corporate sponsors. A variety of opportunities exist including preparing community meals, performing light construction work, cleaning rooms, delivering programs, and supporting neighbors.
